This artifact is made of thick iron. We believe it to be a ladle for melting lead for a bullet mold, but we have no evidence of that. There is a groove along the stem where the melted metal supposedly ran into a mold. It could have also been used to cast gold and silver or other metals in molds. There is, however, ample evidence that there was a blacksmith shop at the mill while it was in operation.
