Last year Dad and I went to Richmond to meet Dr. James Kelly, Director of Museums, at the Virginia Historical Society. Dr. Kelly gave us a wonderful tour of this outstanding museum. (If you like Virginia history, you will love this place) We decided after our meeting that we would donate the water wheel and artifacts to the museum for their new wing addition.
The new addition consists of a new 54,000-square-foot wing that includes a 500-seat auditorium, new exhibition space, a state-of-the-art classroom, and enough space to house the next twenty years' worth of anticipated collections growth.
This new $16 million addition houses the new permanent exhibit entitled "Virginians at Work". This exhibit focuses on all forms of jobs performed by Virginians over the last 200+ years. The grand opening for the new exhibit was on Saturday July 22, 2006.
